For shopping, there are many exquisite traditional textiles, jewellery and the jade for which Guatemala is known. Outside the city there are opportunities for day trips to Mayan communities for a glimpse of this fascinating indigenous culture which is so important in Guatemala today or coffee plantations to learn how it is grown and produced and pick up a few bags to take home.
